Livre unique en parchemin - Variations atmosphériques chaudes

Livre unique en parchemin - Variations atmosphériques chaudes

Bleached kid parchment, velvet goatskins, Canson paper, pigment inks, shellac

Through the layers of hot air that reveal a more or less imposing sun, the garden blooms in evanescent colors that vary from one moment to the next. This is the same image, repeated six times. But the colors of each plant element change, one page after another. This small book, which fits in the palm of your hand, is a unique meditation, in the intimate space of the book.

The translucency of parchment allows for work on a backlit table. The drawings and patterns are prepared in black felt on tracing paper, which facilitates the distribution of ink droplets, deposited with a pen, on the page. The quality of the shellac-based inks allows it to adhere to the surface of the parchment without being absorbed and thus reflect ambient light. The binding of this unique book is the result of assembling two parchment sheets, drawn and then doubled with suede. The decor of the back in colored vertical lines follows from this assembly, as well as the coloring of the edges. The covers are in crumpled white goatskin parchment on a colored background.

Manufacturing process

Inspired by the books of hours of the Middle Ages, this book is unique.
The original drawings are pen-and-ink.
The inks are based on natural pigments and shellac (waterproof).
The parchment that I personally choose is made in France.
The velvet goatskins are tanned in France.
The binding technique is a personal development based on the properties of the parchment, as is the decoration technique.
I produce the entire work, from the drawings to the binding and decoration.
Protected by a cardboard box, canvas and matching title.
