Aurélie Lanoiselée,
Embroiderer, Textile designer

Aurélie Lanoiselée is currently in residence at Villa Kujoyama and is developing a project in Kyoto titled “Preserving the Ephemeral.” Her approach stems from her encounter with Yoshika Yajima, a researcher in Osaka who studies hanamusubi, the “flower knots” of the Edo period passed down from generation to generation by women. Her work explores the tension between what is tied and untied, between memory and disappearance. Through needle and thread, she questions the connections between the visible and the invisible, gesture and meaning, making color a true vehicle for attachment and meaning.

Aurélie Lanoiselée takes embroidery beyond its traditional scope. Her experiments with ennobling and up-cycling are turning embroidery codes on their head, inspiring artists and couturiers alike. Combining contemporary materials with exceptional craftsmanship, his creations have been attracting interest from Europe's leading Haute Couture houses since 2002.
