Learn moreFor several years, ARCA has been co-financing the first thesis on wood at the Ecole des Mines. The team brings its wood expertise to the research work and development of this technology, as well as ideas for applications, design, implementation, and combinations. The process involves depositing molten nanometric material droplets onto the wood substrate at high speed and very high temperature using a cold spray or plasma torch. This technology allows for the charging, application, and combination of materials that were previously impossible to associate structurally. The agglomeration of these material particles on wood avoids any bonding and therefore the presence of polymers. In other words, it is a brazing process that allows the properties of wood (insulation, warmth, lightness, aesthetics, etc.) to be combined with other materials for their electrical conductivity, hygienic properties, resistance to corrosion, heat, or ease of maintenance. Thermal spraying, for example, allows for the restoration of works by recharging them or, by robotizing and programming the application, building 3D volumes similar to 3D printers, in ceramics, gold, titanium, steel, aluminum, glass, stainless steel, zinc, etc.
