Tresser l'ombre

Tresser l'ombre

Raw wicker, white wicker and steel

From inside, through the woven wicker, our eyes can detect the sun's rays and, depending on its position, guess the season. As part of her residency at Villaines-les-Rochers, Clémence Althabegoïty has designed a shade structure in collaboration with basket-maker Catherine Romand.

Learn more

In a tribute to the algorithms of both astronomy and basketry, the artist-designer weaves together the worlds of science and craft. The woven object precisely reproduces the trajectories of the sun in the Touraine region. It was designed with the help of Pascal Descamps, an astronomer at the Paris Observatory, and made by Catherine Romand. Osiericulture is very sensitive to climate change and harvests in recent years have become increasingly complex. At a time when the seasons are beginning to merge, this installation is an invitation to connect with the solar cycles, to learn more about our neighbouring star, and to question our relationship with time.
