Portrait
A cabinetmaker, marquetry artist, and designer based in Angers. His work stands out for its unique approach, which creates a dialogue between the traditional craftsmanship of cabinetmaking and the worlds of textiles and embroidery. Trained in cabinetmaking, he developed a technique early in his studies that has become his signature: embroidery on wood, which involves sewing beads and threads onto pre-prepared wood veneers. Through his creations, Jean-Brieuc Chevalier explores the boundaries between craftsmanship, decorative art, and innovation. His works combine marquetry, form, light, and precious materials to create designs of exceptional richness.
"Embroidery on wood opens up a whole new world of possibilities for cabinetmaking and marquetry."
His approach embodies a contemporary vision of the arts and crafts: drawing on the excellence of artisanal craftsmanship while incorporating tools and technologies that open up new creative horizons. His work reflects a constant pursuit of innovation, without ever losing touch with the material, the artisan’s hand, and the time-intensive nature of the creative process.
