Martin Spreng creates one-offs, small series and bespoke jewellery pieces in his Paris workshop, following a career as a cabinetmaker of exceptional contemporary furniture and wall art for over 30 years with the Xylos group. He is particularly fond of commissioned pieces, which allow him to discuss the creative process and propose his aesthetic vision of the desired jewel.
"My creations were born of the passion for combining materials, whether they are natural or worked, metal, wood or mineral, to reveal all their colors, possibilities of texture or shaping. Creating a play of contrast between the precious and the raw or poor."
For this Munich-born designer, creating jewellery is above all an exploration and dialogue with material and color. He likes to mix different metals such as gold, platinum, silver, steel and, more recently, titanium, as well as fine or ornamental stones. He uses chasing techniques, oxidizing or coloring the metal, combining the experience of the cabinetmaker with the techniques of the jeweler. He plays with the textures thus created and the touches of color in the stones to forge his universe: lunar landscapes, undulations, nature or space, poetic evocations of his cosmos.
