Colombian glass sculptor William Vélasquez, a graduate of the Bogota School of Fine Arts and the École Nationale Supérieure des Arts Décoratifs in Strasbourg, explores the combination of metal sculpting and glass techniques. His geometrically-oriented pieces feature a system of interlocking, simple, angular shapes. He plays with a mix of materials such as pâte de verre, ordinary glass and metal.
"I use glass as a means of expression. It is a technique that requires great rigor in execution as well as great patience and humility. But when the cooking time is up, the emotion emerges."
Through his works of pure form, William Velasquez evokes the relationship between man and spirituality. For him, glass in its various states of matter symbolically reveals states of human character: transparency, opacity, clarity, etc. William Velasquez has exhibited regularly in France and Germany since 1989.
