Portrait
For 30 years, Alain Taral has been combining his two professions to create a single one: the creator of wood bindings. Wood and books have always been associated: before cardboard, bindings were made of wooden ais; wood has often been used in the composition of paper for nearly two centuries. Local or exotic woods, solid or veneered, burr or burl, guide his inspiration and enable him to endlessly renew his creations. A wide variety of hinges, the fruit of extensive research. The Alain Taral prize, created in 2020 by Librairie Blaizot in Paris, has rewarded the most beautiful wooden bindings presented by professionals, amateurs and students of bookbinding.
"Everything is difficult before it becomes simple"
Alain Taral uses a wide variety of veneers, both natural and stained, enabling him to create a variety of fusional marquetry decors, like paintings. He often uses only the natural decor of the wood.
